Great Design Doesn’t Begin in a Studio. It Begins in a Community.
Many people imagine that every new footwear collection starts inside a design studio, surrounded by sketches, computers, and mood boards.
At Sandals World and VPADA, we believe something different.
The most meaningful ideas begin with people.
They begin with local communities, traditional craftsmanship, and the stories that have quietly existed for generations.

Every collection we create starts with a journey not simply to discover beautiful materials, but to understand the culture, heritage, and craftsmanship behind them.
This time, that journey led us to Surat Thani in Southern Thailand, where we discovered a remarkable plant that has shaped local life for centuries.
Its name is Krajood (Kajood).
Today, it has become the inspiration for the next chapter of our design story.

What Is Krajood?
Krajood (Kajood) is a native wetland plant belonging to the sedge family. It naturally grows in peat swamps, marshlands, and around freshwater lakes across Southern Thailand.
While it may appear simple at first glance, Krajood has played an important role in local communities for generations.
After harvesting, artisans carefully prepare each stem through several traditional steps.
They harvest the plant. They dry it naturally under the sun.
and carefully sort each strand.
Some pieces are dyed using natural or traditional coloring techniques.
Finally, skilled artisans weave every strand by hand.
This process transforms Krajood into beautiful handcrafted products such as bags, baskets, mats, home décor, and everyday household items.
Its natural flexibility, durability, lightweight structure, and renewable origin make Krajood an outstanding example of how local resources can support modern sustainability without losing their cultural identity.
A Journey to Surat Thani in Search of Living Craftsmanship
When people think about Surat Thani, they often picture tropical islands, beautiful beaches, or Cheow Lan Lake.
For the Sandals World team, however, our destination was something entirely different.
We traveled to Ban Huay Luek Krajood Weaving Handicraft Community Enterprise.

This remarkable community has preserved the traditional art of Krajood weaving while continuing to pass its knowledge from one generation to the next.
The moment we stepped inside, we didn’t simply see beautifully displayed bags or woven mats.
We saw stories.
Every woven piece reflected patience, dedication, and generations of craftsmanship.
It reminded us that true design is never created overnight.
It grows through experience, tradition, and the hands of people who truly love what they do.

Every Woven Line Carries a Story
During our visit, we had the opportunity to observe nearly every stage of the weaving process.
We watched artisans prepare the fibers.
and saw the drying process. We learned how every strand is selected.
Then we watched each weave slowly come together by hand.
There were no shortcuts.
No machines replaced the artisan’s hands.
Every pattern required years of experience, incredible attention to detail, and remarkable patience.
Looking closely, we realized something fascinating.
The woven patterns were not random.
Every line followed a rhythm.Every crossing created balance. Every repeated movement formed a unique visual language.
At that very moment, our design team began to see something beyond weaving it self and discovered inspiration.

We Didn’t Copy the Pattern. We Reimagined It.
Great design should never imitate.
It should interpret.
Instead of copying traditional Krajood patterns directly onto footwear, the design teams at Sandals World and VPADA focused on understanding the essence behind the weaving.
They studied the movement of each woven line.
They explored its rhythm. They translated those ideas into a completely new outsole pattern.
The result is not a replica of a woven mat.
Instead, it is a contemporary interpretation of traditional Thai craftsmanship.
Every step now carries the visual rhythm of Krajood while introducing a fresh identity for modern sandals.
The outsole becomes more than a functional surface. It becomes a storytelling element.

Where Traditional Craft Meets Material Innovation

For us, sustainability is never about one material alone.
It is about thoughtful decisions made throughout the entire design process.

Inside, we use SW GREEN BIO EVA, a sugarcane-based foam developed from renewable Bio-Based Materials.
By combining natural rubber with renewable materials, we create Thailand sandals that balance comfort, durability, and environmental responsibility.
For Sandals World, true innovation comes from combining heritage with modern technology.
That philosophy extends beyond design.
It also shapes every material we choose.
Our outsole uses premium natural Thai rubber, providing excellent grip, flexibility, durability, and reliable slip resistance for everyday use.
By combining natural rubber with renewable materials, we create Thailand sandals that balance comfort, durability, and environmental responsibility.
For us, sustainability is never about one material alone.
It is about thoughtful decisions made throughout the entire design process.

More Than Handmade Sandals A Story You Can Wear
Every collection at Sandals World begins with a story.
Sometimes that story comes from the mountains of Northern Thailand through intricate macramé techniques.
Sometimes it comes from traditional crochet craftsmanship.
Today, it comes from the wetlands of Southern Thailand through the timeless art of Krajood weaving.
These stories shape every pair of our handmade sandals.
They transform ordinary footwear into Artistic Handmade Sandals that celebrate both craftsmanship and culture.
This is the heart of Art & Craft Sandals. They are not simply beautiful products.
and wearable expressions of Thailand’s creative heritage.

Sustainable Thai Craft Sandals: Walking Toward the Future Together
Around the world, people are searching for products with authenticity, purpose, and lasting value.
At Sandals World, we believe Thailand already possesses one of the greatest creative resources imaginable—its local communities.
By working alongside artisans, preserving traditional knowledge, and combining it with innovative materials, we create footwear that honors the past while embracing the future.
Our collaboration with Ban Huay Luek Krajood Weaving Handicraft Community Enterprise represents much more than a new outsole design.
It represents respect.
Respect for local wisdom.
and for handmade craftsmanshipand Respect for nature.
And respect for the communities that continue to preserve these traditions for future generations.
That is why every pair of Sustainable Thai Craft Sandals carries far more than comfort and style.
It carries the story of a community.
It carries generations of craftsmanship.
It carries the future of responsible design.
Because sometimes, the most meaningful innovation doesn’t begin with technology.
Sometimes, it begins with a single woven strand of Krajood and the people who have kept its story alive for generations.
And that story now continues one step at a time with Sandals World and VPADA.
